  1. Reports

Secretary – Whiteman – The proposed January 2021 Board Meeting Minutes were circulated.  Adair moved, Allshouse seconded to approve the minutes as presented, which passed unanimously.

Treasurer – Durham – The January 31 bank account balance was $21,760.67 together with a note receivable of $10,000.00, showing an increase in net worth to $31,760.67, compared to net worth of $31,362.43 on December 31.  Income of $1,167.51 and expenses of $769.27 generated a net surplus of $398.24 for the month of January, 2021.

President – President Schmidt prepared the following agenda of topics to discuss:

  • Renew membership, if necessary.
  • Financial Review completed by Chris Cree.
  • Adopt proposed election code from 2021 Handbook.
    • Election Committee does this instead of the NTM Board.
  • New Members Party discussion.
    • Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Ken and Lori Roberts’s house.
  • Next Board Meeting: March 21, 2021.

Membership – Paul Whiteman – provided the following report:

  • As of January 31st, NTM had 1,197 members, which includes 15 new members: 3 lapsed members rejoined, 9 new members joined, and 3 moved in. One member left due to moving out.

Ombudsman - Randy Brack – Last year the AMC updated the ASIES to replace gender-specific pronouns with the equivalent “they”, “them”, or “their” construction.  “Ombudsman” will be replaced with “Ombudsperson”, but the timing can be delayed until the next appointment.  These changes will need to be reflected in the next release of the Minimum Standard Bylaws for Local Groups of American Mensa.

Election Committee – Paul Whiteman – Election committee is disbanded; PO Box closed out.

(Helphrey) Scholarship Chair – Jessica Helphrey – Ralf Kittenbacher has uploaded all the scholarship applications to the appropriate website.

(Helphrey) Publisher/Circulation Manager – Val Beasley – Nothing reported.

(Helphrey) Social and Communications – Vacant.

(Helphrey) Publicity – Vacant.

(Allshouse) Webmaster – Andy McKellar – the webmaster was personally “off the air” for a few days during the winter storm because of his internet provider having an outage, but so far as he knows, the NTM website had (and has) no problems.  Also, the webmaster has made the corrections he is aware of to the e-mail forwarders for board members and appointed officers.  Anyone aware of errors should let him know about them.

(Allshouse) Testing Coordinator – Deborah Lockhart – Nothing reported.

(Allshouse) Programs – Cathy Allshouse – North Texas Mensa general meetings will resume in March.  On March 21, 2021, the general meeting program will feature Jo Diudice, Director, Dallas Public Library, and Mary Wilonsky, Executive Director, Friends of the Dallas Public Library who will speak on how the Dallas Public Library system serves our community within the challenges of our current times.  April will be a computer scientist.  Cathy is also trying to get someone from North Texas Food Bank to talk about food insecurities in north Texas.

(Allshouse) Calendar - Sara Hawkins – Nothing reported.

(Adair) Gifted Youth - Bill Rock – Gifted Youth Gifted Youth will have a "thinking about thinking" interactive session on February 21, and a trail walk in March.

(Adair) S.I.G.H.T. - Gunny Hartman – S.I.G.H.T. – Nothing to report for S.I.G.H.T. this month.

(Adair) Editor – Bill Rock – February M-AURA was on hold until February 17 for an RVC column.  Now the copy has been sent to the printer to start on.  Not sure of what the printer’s turnaround time will be, given all of the fun and interesting variables that are currently in play.  The M-AURA will probably be at least a few days late, as the editor normally allows a week for printing and a week for labeling/delivery.
